Rachelle’s Having Contractions

25 Jun

I got a call from Rachelle about an hour ago telling me that she’s having contractions. She called the doctor, who ordered her to report to Labor and Delivery so that they can figure out what is going on since we’re only in our 35th week. If this sounds familiar it’s because it happened with Layla at almost exactly the same time as logged in this post.

My lack of urgency is due to the fact that they will most likely give her shots to stop the contractions. I’m going to leave work now to keep Rachelle company. Check out my Twitter feed (which is located on the right-side of this page) if you want to follow the updates.

Update (10:00 pm): We’re home from the hospital and with the baby still in Rachelle’s stomach. When I arrived at hospital this afternoon, Rachelle was hooked up to machines to monitor the contractions. After close to two hours of the contractions getting closer and closer together, they decided to take an ultrasound and to see if the cervix has dilated. Luckily the cervix was not dilated so they were able to give Rachelle drugs to halt the contractions. This should give us a few more important weeks.

Glad to hear she’s okay. My wife had a rough last few weeks with our second one and I was glad when it was all over. But, she never received and drugs to help her stop her contractions…not sure why because she sure needed something. The only thing they gave her was Tylenol to help with the pain. And, of course, that did absolutely no good.

      Hey Tyler,

Thanks for the comment. I’m almost completely uninformed about this sort of thing, but it sounds weird that they just left your wife to have the contractions and mask the pain with Tylenol. I guess maybe they figured out what was causing them and weren’t convinced that it would induce labor. I’m just going to shut up now and stop pretending that I know what I’m talking about. :)

Take care and I like your site.

Trust me, it was very frustrating for both of us. I forgot that they did always hook her up to an IV and rehydrate her which seemed to help for a little while. My wife is like uber safe pregnant woman and only drank water during pregnancy so I’m not sure why she would get so dehydrated to begin with.

One time we went to the hospital they ended up giving her an Ambien to help her sleep. She was able to get some rest but still woke up some during the contractions.

And then, after all that, my wife suffered from post postpartum preeclampsia and had some serious blood-pressure problems. She was admitted back into the hospital a week later and put on magnesium for 24 hours…and the we had to stay for 2 more nights…good times.
