Route 130 is a Death Trap
12 Oct
I have to travel Route 130 every day to get to my new job and it is a chaotic mess. It’s a narrow, two-lane road bordered by old rusty guard-rails, and contains countless traffic circles. It is known for being severely congested and for bordering the arm pit of the United States: The City of Camden.
Yesterday while driving home from work, I coasted in the left lane at about 35 mph. I put on my signal and switched to the right lane. Traffic began to slow down, so I applied the brakes and came to a gradual halt. I noticed another commuter waiting to turn in front of me onto Rt 130. Since we were at a dead stop, I decided to let her go.
As soon as I picked my hand up to wave her along, I saw a flash and felt a loud bang. When I realized what was happening, I was being pushed into the left lane of traffic. I had just gotten rear-ended, no…crushed, by a white SUV behind me. I frantically tried applying all of the pressure to my brakes but the sheer force dragged my vehicle for another 50 yards. By way of miracle, there were no cars coming in the left lane and I was able to pull over to the shoulder.
I got out of my car and assessed the damage. My entire bumper was turned inside out, and my trunk was lifted up and almost folded in half. My left tail light was shattered. Apparently a woman (surprise, surprise) wasn’t paying attention and barreled into the white SUV, which then hit me.
Luckily nobody was hurt, and aside from the damage and being shaken up, everything was fine. With the stress of a baby coming, and a new job, this is exactly what I needed. Thank you, God.
